SKY1 TO PREMIERE THE SIMPSONS, 'IN THE NAME OF THE GRANDFATHER'
Sky1 today confirmed that for the first time in its 20 year history, The Simpsons would premiere an episode in the UK and Ireland. This St Patrick's Day, Sky1 will present the worldwide premiere of a brand new episode a week ahead of the US transmission. In the Name of the Grandfather sees The Simpsons family traveling to Ireland in an episode to be broadcast exclusively on Sky1 and Sky1 HD on St Patrick's Day, Tuesday 17th March at 7.30pm.
The episode, In the Name of the Grandfather will form the centre-piece of an Irish themed night of entertainment on Sky1, including further Irish escapades from everyone's favourite cartoon family in the episode Sex, Pies and Idiot Scrapes. So sit back, crack open a Guinness and enjoy The Simpsons unique satirical humour, a whole week before the Yanks.
In the show The Simpsons venture from Springfield to Ireland on a wild and hilarious adventure. Grampa Simpson has always longed to return to Ireland to have a beer in O'Flanagan's pub and Homer sets about making his wish come true. However, a drunken Homer and Grampa end up buying the pub and a whole host of madness and mayhem ensues. The Simpsons bring their charm and humour to a variety of famous Irish landmarks as they visit the Giant's Causeway, Blarney Castle and even manage a stop off at the world famous Guinness Brewery. Irish actor Colm Meaney features as special guest and voices Tom O'Flanagan.
To celebrate this monumental occasion, The Simpsons executive producers Al Jean and James L. Brooks plus voice of Bart Simpson Nancy Cartwright will travel to Ireland for an exclusive screening of the episode and will take part in a whole host of Irish activities including leading out the St Patrick's Day Parade, the largest of its kind in Europe.

Currently the longest-running sitcom on television, The Simpsons exploded into a cultural phenomenon and remains one of the most groundbreaking and innovative entertainment franchises throughout the world. "Best. 20 Years. Ever.," a year-long global celebration honoring all things The Simpsons, recently launched and will culminate on January 14, 2010, the 20th anniversary of the series' debut. The simpsons movie came out in 2007 with an estimated budget of 75 million dollars.
